You’re creating great content. You’re sharing it on social media. But your Google rankings aren't budging. What’s the missing piece? Often, it’s the invisible stuff: Technical SEO.
As a WordPress developer with over 7 years of experience, I've had to explain this crucial topic to more than 350 clients. My goal is always to skip the jargon and get straight to what matters for your business. Here’s the simple breakdown I use to explain the work that happens "under the hood."
This is the easiest way to understand it.
It's the invisible structure that makes the house functional, safe, and easy for visitors—and Google—to navigate. Without a good foundation, no one will ever see your beautiful furniture.
When I perform a technical SEO audit, I'm essentially acting as a home inspector for your website. I focus on three critical areas.
Before Google can rank your website, it has to be able to find, crawl, and understand all of your pages.
My fix is to act as a guide for Google. I create and submit a clean "map" of your site (an XML sitemap) and set clear rules for which "doors" Google's bots should use (a robots.txt file). The result is that Google can explore your entire website efficiently, ensuring every important page is indexed and eligible to appear in search results.
Site speed is a massive ranking factor. A slow website is like a door that takes ten seconds to open—most people will just give up and leave.
My solution is to make your site "scorching fast." I do this by optimizing your images so they're lightweight, installing and configuring powerful caching plugins (like WP Rocket), and ensuring your site is built on clean, efficient code. The result is a fantastic user experience that keeps visitors happy and signals to Google that your site is high-quality.
Trust and accessibility are non-negotiable.
My approach is to lock the front door and ensure the house is accessible to everyone. I install an SSL certificate (making your site HTTPS) which tells visitors and Google that your site is secure and trustworthy. I also ensure your website has a flawless responsive design, meaning it looks and works perfectly on any device, from a small smartphone to a large desktop monitor.

You can have the best content in the world, but no one will find it if your site's technical foundation is cracked. Technical SEO isn't the most glamorous part of web design, but it's the essential groundwork that allows all your other marketing efforts to succeed. It's what separates the sites that get found from the ones that get lost.
